(Haloma, the girl who dances on the sun – Nubian Dialect)

AriannaArianna Halima al Tiye is an East African, who hails from New York CityShe began her studies in African Dance at the ripe age of three, when she began studying with her mother, a former dancer, mode, painter and educator.  Later, Arianna became a member of the student body of dancers at Ballet Hispanico and The Alvin Ailey School of Dance. She has studied and performed for over 30 years in the United States and has traveled and studied dance internationally for over 10 years in Africa, Europe and Asia.  She is considered a leading performer and scholar in her field of folkloric dance, and conducts seminars and workshops throughout the United States and abroad.

 Arianna has studied several different disciplines in the Modern and Ethnic traditions of dance, such as Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Haitian, Afro-Cuban, Congolese, Kathak, West African, Middle Eastern, Flamenco and Katherine Dunham Technique.  However, her area of concentration focuses on the folkloric bellydances of East, North and Sub-Saharan Africa.  Some of the studios and schools where she commenced and developed as a dancer include:  Alvin Ailey, Ballet Hispanico, Djoniba Dance and Drum, Dance Space, Fareta's, Charles Moore Studio, Harlem School of the Arts, Fazil's, Lezly's Dance School, Clark Center and Lotus Fine Arts, just to name a few.

 She has been especially blessed to have studied under master teachers such as Ned Williams, Lorimeil Machado, Lygia Barreto, Richard Gonzalez, Jean-Leon Destine, Mona Amira, Julio Jean, Bernadine Jennings, Mabiba Baegna, Thelma Mwan Dido, Titos Sompa, Funmilayo Chesney, Lamine Thiame.   But she accredits her true development as a dancer to the elders of her mother and grandmother's village in Africa and to her mentors and colleagues:  Felix "Pupy" Insua (Cuba), Fatma Laksiel (Morocco), Guruji Najama Ayeesha (Kathak), Yousry Sharif (Egyptian Academy of Dance), Dalia Carella (Middle Eastern/Gypsy Folklore), and to renowned choreographer of North African and Berber Folkloric Dance – Leila Haddad  (Morocco and Tunisia) and to Raqia Hassan with whom she studied Raks al Sharqui in New York and in Cairo.

 In 1998, Arianna al Tiye instituted The Ethnic Dance Programme at Saint Michael Academy in New York City, in conjunction with the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Dance Workshops for High School Students in the Arts.  In 2006, she became an invited fellow at the prestigious Mark Morris Dance School and Organization, and is currently a member of the faculty of teachers.  She has taught Modern and Afro-Haitian Dance in Germany and in France, and currently teaches the Bellydances of East and North Africa in New York City. 

 As a troupe member, she has performed professionally with the following dance companies:  Fusha Dance Company, Malaki Ma Kongo, Oriqui Ballet Folklorica, Ologunde', Sarava/Batucada, and theDalia Carella Dance Collective.  She is the founder/director of her own

"folkloric bellydance" company, Nubian Moon Daughters Dance Company.  Additionally, she is the proprietor of three businesses:

Daughters of the Nubian Moon Entertainment Productions, Caravan Across Sudan Imports, and  The Mysteries of Isis Tours. 

Currently she is working on opening her own dance studio and Healing Meditation Ashram, Goddess of Kush Nile Lotus Temple.
